We’ll level with you – we’re completely crap at crafts. An art degree is one thing, but we’ve never quite been able to figure out how to wield a pair of knitting needles, or make a passable Christmas card using nothing but pasta, glitter and the milk of human kindness. It’s just not in our nature, or our skillset. Those of you who are inclined to crafting, however, might be pleased to hear that TOMS and Office footwear are hosting a Style Your Sole event to celebrate Vogue’s Fashion Night Out. The TOMS Style Your Sole event is all about creativity, using a shoe (your TOMS, natch) as your blank canvas to cover in paint, glitter, beads or buttons; no materials are off limits (though we imagine using lynx fur as a decorative trim might be frowned upon), and participants are only limited by their imaginations. If you’re struggling to think of anything to daub on your shoes, fear not, as there’ll be artists on hand to provide inspiration.
(Some background on the TOMS brand, in case you’ve been living under a rock, or simply in a place where people don’t wear espadrilles: TOMS Shoes was established in 2006 by American traveler Blake Mycoskie, after he met a gaggle of children in an Argentine village who simply didn’t have any footwear. it’s premise is that for every pair of TOMS shoes sold, a second is donated to children without shoes in a developing country – thus, the company’s slogan of ‘one for one’ was born. It’s official; a shoe hasn’t made us feel this fuzzy inside since Celine made those fur-lined clogs.)
Get creative and join TOMS on Wednesday 8th September at OFFICE in the Lower Ground Floor of House of Fraser, Oxford Street.
