Words by Zara Martin.

Despite the distinct lack of cabs in the French capital, the red terror alert, and my bouquet of flowers being attacked by what can only be described in all seriousness as ‘the French Vicky Pollard’, Paris Fashion Week (well, the two days that I spent there, at least) showed me one hell of a good time. I was in town for a number of reasons, these being:
- My birthday celebrations
- The “BodyAmr & Zara Martin” capsule collection, and
- (and 4, 5, 6 etc.) Some general art and fashion fun. You’d think I would have had enough ‘fashion fun’ after both attending LFW and hosting London Fashion Weekend, of course, but apparently not. So, without further ado – my Paris diary.
FRIDAY PM: Arrive in Paris to torrential rain. Birthday festivities – which mainly revolve around vodka – at Le Matignon, where I received the aforementioned abused flowers (may they rest in peace) from An Unknown Stranger, then on to the Margiela after-party, where my lippy lawyer friend decided to have a roaring argument with the bouncer. Which, as I’m sure you’ll agree, is always a fun end to an evening.
SATURDAY AM: Overslept – possibly as a result of my birthday festivities, though I wouldn’t like to say – and missed the shows! This never happens, does it? But somehow, it did.
SATURDAY PM: I arrive at the BodyAmr showroom on Rue De Rivoli, right next to the Louvre (A quick back-story for you, by the way: BodyAmr, which happens to be my favourite fashion house, asked to me collaborate on a 7 piece capsule range within their Spring/Summer 2011 collection. A no brainer, obviously, to which I screamed ‘YES!’). I have to admit, seeing the designs by the unbelievably talented Amr that I ‘inspired’ on a catwalk at London Fashion Week was pretty mind blowing, but seeing them hanging in a showroom during Paris Fashion Week next to Giles’ collection was just surreal. Next, I popped in to visit my good friend designer Deborah Lyons, otherwise known as Mechante of London, at her showroom in the George V, where Sarah Jessica Parker was to be found admiring her handy work. Felt particularly proud, being as I am ‘the face’ (or rather, the feet) of the Mechante SS11 campaign! All fashioned out, I then went for dinner at Liza, followed by some Nuit Blanche action. Predictably, ended up stranded yet again.

SUNDAY AM: Karl Lagerfeld’s “Parcours de Travail” exhibition at Maison Europeenne de la Photographie. I was expecting endless Baptise, but it was seriously impressive – the landscapes were beautifully composed and I was particularly taken with the innovative printing processes, to cram a review of the show into a very small nutshell.

SUNDAY PM: No trip to Paris is complete without a falafel and some shopping in Le Marais.
A bientot!

I do not believe it was as you say “a roaring argument” merely a moment of pure disbelief at the sheer arrognace and rudeness of the bouncer (aka the biggest Tw*T). I would like to add that i stepped away without unleashing on him. One must pick their battles. I will not be persuing this matter further with you.
