Giles Deacon, fashion designer extraordinaire, dresser of celebrities and… environmental campaigner? We were a little surprised too, but he has “taken time out from his demanding schedule” to support urban tree planting charity Trees for Cities as their 2011 Tree-Athlon approaches…
The garment in question is an exclusive, limited edition Giles T-shirt, which will be given out to all participants of the 2011 Tree-Athlon on Saturday 17th September in London’s celebrated Battersea Park.
‘I come from the Lake District where nature is an integral part of growing up so I’m really pleased to be a part of the Trees for Cities 2011 Tree-Athlon, helping to raise awareness and money to plant trees in our inner city environment. ‘ Giles Deacon
In the spirit of a traditional triathlon, the Tree-Athlon is a three-part event with a green twist, and includes a 5km run around the award winning Battersea Park, a free sapling tree for each participating runner to take home and plant, as well as a 100m barefoot world record attempt, which Trees for Cities previously held, but want to reclaim. The annual Tree-Athlon raises money for the planting and care of thousands of trees across the UK, and internationally, and creates awareness about the importance of trees in urban spaces.
With a host of entertainment and warm up activities presented alongside the race, Trees for Cities is inviting everyone to do their bit for the environment by signing up for the Tree-Athlon fun run.
All participants need to register online via the Trees for Cities website [click here]
