We like to think we are food connoisseurs here at Art Wednesday, so we were extra excited when an e-mail entitled ‘Tastes of Argentina’ popped into our inbox. A day combining steak, chocolate and wine: where do we sign up?
Hosted by Decanter and Wines of Argentina, and taking place in The Great Hall, Vinopolis, the day offers the opportunity to sample more than 150 Argentinian wines, presented by some of the country’s top winemakers. As well as (so we’ve been told) the volume of food on offer, there will also be live tango sets, to get your tootsies tapping. Best be careful on the vino then, or else we’ll be on the dance floor, waving our very mal-coordinated arms about, which won’t be very pretty. Sarah Jane Evans, chocolate specialist and author of ‘Chocolate Unwrapped’ (can we have her job please?) will be hosting a chocolate and wine sampling session – she has created wine pairings to suit each piece of chocolate. Getting drunk and eating chocolate? Sounds like our average Friday night in. Pop ‘Ghost’ on and we may as well be at home in our pajamas. Except however, that would be inappropriate as this looks like a snazzy do.
If you want to brush up on your wine skills, there is also the chance to book into an hour long master class with wine director of the Gaucho restaurants Phil Crozier, who will teach you more about Argentina’s leading grape varieties.
Tastes of Argentina runs from 11am-5pm, Saturday 10th September at The Great Hall, Vinopolis. Tickets for the event are priced at £35 with a complimentary Riedel glass. Wine master class sessions with Phil Crozier must be booked in advance and are priced at £10. To book call 020 3148 4513 or visit www.decanter.com/events
