Our favourite council has commissioned some of its local talent to design limited edition cotton shopping totes to promote its Love Hackney, Shop local campaign. The impressive roster of designers: Canadian knitwear designer Mark Fast, designer of the moment Simone Rocha, luxury shoe designer Atalanta Weller and menswear designer William Richard Green, also just so happen to be some of Britain’s most interesting and innovative up and coming designers. Totes cool.
Cllr Feryal Demirci, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods, said: “Hackney is home to fantastic markets and many independent shops. ‘Love Hackney, Shop Local’ encourages residents to make the most of what’s on their doorstep by shopping locally and supporting our market traders and businesses. Hackney designers support this message and have produced reusable bags for shoppers to use instead of plastic bags.”
The designer bags will be available to buy on the stalls of Hackney’s markets, such as Chatsworth Road and Broadway Market, starting with Mark’s and Richard’s, which you can buy from Friday. Simon’s and Atalanta’s will follow in September 2012.
