Pancake day just got a little bit more exciting (if that’s possible). We like some weird and wonderful art, here at Art Wednesday, but this has whetted our appetite too. Created by experimental food experts Polly Betton and Andrew Stellitano and shot by Dominic Davies, the photographer for Heston Blumenthal’s The Big Fat Duck Cookbook, forget flipping, welcome to pancake art.

The series of what they call ‘panscapes’ – volcanoes, rapids and icebergs have turned our favourite flat cakes, dripping in butter and golden syrup (or sugar and lemon if you like your pancake a little more tart), into edible art. In other words, a feast for the eyes and the taste buds. If you fancy trying your hand at these creations, watch the ‘how to’ video on Youtube [here], or join the Facebook group [here].

Polly Betton is and author and founder of experimental food organisation Teatime Production. Her book, “party! How to throw a brilliant bash: the essential guide,” was published in September 2011. For more information about Polly [click here]

Andrew Stellitano has created sports jelly for Nike and Tiramisu for Gucci in the shape of luggage. For more information about Andrew [click here]
